My Husband Mocked Me in Front of 100 Guests at His Mistress’s Baby Shower—Until He Opened My Envelope

  • by

Fernando took the envelope from my hand with a smirk.

“Everyone, look at this!” he announced, raising it above his head. “My wife has finally decided to give our unborn child a present.”

A few guests laughed nervously.

His mother, Marta, folded her arms.

“I hope it isn’t another one of your useless surprises, Valeria. This baby deserves something worthy of the Montoya family.”

Camila stood beside Fernando, gently rubbing her pregnant belly. She wore an expensive pink dress, a diamond necklace, and the satisfied smile of a woman who believed she had already won.

“Fernando, darling,” she whispered, “you don’t have to embarrass her. She’s been through enough.”

Her false kindness made my stomach turn.

For ten years, I had endured Fernando’s insults, his mother’s cruelty, and the humiliation of being blamed for our inability to have children.

Now they were celebrating another woman’s pregnancy inside the house I had helped maintain, surrounded by guests who had no idea what was really happening.

Fernando shook the envelope.

“So, Valeria, what is it? A check? A necklace? Perhaps a letter apologizing for wasting eleven years of my life?”

The crowd fell silent.

I looked him directly in the eyes.

“Open it, Fernando.”

Something in my voice made him hesitate.

Then he tore the envelope open.

He pulled out a folded document and began reading.

At first, he smiled.

Then his eyebrows drew together.

He read the first paragraph again.

His smile vanished.

“What is this nonsense?” he demanded.

“Keep reading,” I replied calmly.

His fingers tightened around the paper.

Camila leaned toward him.

“What does it say?”

Fernando didn’t answer.

Marta snatched the document from his hand.

“Let me see that!”

She scanned the page, and the color drained from her face.

Across the room, someone whispered, “What’s happening?”

I took a slow breath.

“The document is a DNA paternity test.”

The ballroom erupted in whispers.

Fernando stared at me.

“You had no right to do this!”

I almost laughed.

“No right? You brought another woman into our home, announced her pregnancy to our entire family, and forced me to organize this celebration. You humiliated me in front of your friends and business partners. But now you’re worried about rights?”

His jaw tightened.

“Who is the father of this child?” I asked.

Camila’s hand flew to her mouth.

“Valeria, you’re insane!”

“Then you have nothing to worry about. Read the results.”

Fernando looked down at the document again.

The words were unmistakable.

The tested man could not be established as the biological father of the child.

The room went completely silent.

Marta shook her head violently.

“No. This is impossible! Fernando is the father. Camila told us herself!”

Camila began crying.

“It’s fake! She paid someone to create this!”

I reached into my handbag and removed a second document.

“This test was conducted by an independent laboratory. The samples were collected under documented procedures, and the report includes the laboratory’s verification details. If you dispute the results, you’re welcome to arrange another properly conducted test.”

I placed the second document on the table.

“I’m not asking anyone to believe me. I’m asking you to examine the evidence.”

Fernando looked as though the floor had disappeared beneath his feet.

For the first time in years, he had no insult ready for me.

But I wasn’t finished.

Because the DNA test was only the first part of the truth.

And the second part would destroy the comfortable little world they had built at my expense.

The Secret Camila Never Expected Me to Discover

Three weeks earlier, I had been sitting alone in my bedroom when an unfamiliar number called.

I almost ignored it.

Then I answered.

“Is this Mrs. Valeria Montoya?”

“Yes. Who is speaking?”

“My name is Dr. Herrera. I’m contacting you regarding a document that may concern your husband.”

My heart began beating faster.

“What document?”

There was a brief pause.

“I’m unable to discuss private medical information without the appropriate authorization. However, I believe you should speak with your attorney about a possible discrepancy involving a paternity claim.”

The call lasted less than two minutes.

But it changed everything.

I didn’t immediately accuse Fernando or Camila. Instead, I contacted my attorney, who explained the importance of obtaining reliable evidence legally and protecting my financial interests.

I also began reviewing documents I had previously trusted Fernando to manage.

That was when I discovered something even more disturbing.

Over the previous eighteen months, several substantial transfers had been made from accounts connected to our shared business interests.

Some were described as consulting fees.

Others were labeled as property expenses.

But the supporting invoices were suspiciously incomplete.

I requested the records through the appropriate legal and accounting channels.

A few days later, I discovered that a company receiving payments from our business had been registered to an individual associated with Camila.

Suddenly, the extravagant jewelry, the designer clothes, and the lavish baby shower made a different kind of sense.

I didn’t yet know the full extent of the arrangement.

But I knew I needed to protect myself before confronting anyone.

My attorney helped me arrange the independent paternity test and preserve the financial records for further examination.

I also began preparing the legal documents necessary to separate my interests from Fernando’s.

I would not allow him to frighten me into signing anything.

And I would no longer let his family convince me that I had no value simply because I had not given birth to a child.
