I was grieving the loss of my baby after giving birth when my 8-year-old son leaned close and whispered

  • by

“They found the child.”

I couldn’t speak.

“Where?”

He took a breath.

“At a private residence.”

“Whose?”

He looked at the file.

“Your mother-in-law’s sister.”

My knees nearly gave out.

Then another piece of information appeared.

The woman had been preparing to leave the country.

With the baby.

I stood up immediately.

“Where is my daughter now?”

My attorney picked up his coat.

“Police are already on their way.”

As we hurried toward the door, my phone suddenly rang.

It was Lucas.

I answered.

For several seconds, neither of us spoke.

Then he whispered:

“I never wanted this to happen.”

My voice shook.

“You lied to me.”

“I was scared.”

“You sold our daughter.”

“No!”

He began crying.

“I didn’t sell her.”

“Then tell me why you gave Brenda money.”

He went silent.

Finally, he said:

“Because your mother-in-law told me the baby was going to die anyway.”

I closed my eyes.

“And you believed her?”

“I was told there was nothing we could do.”

“You didn’t even check.”

“I was terrified.”

I heard him crying.

Then he said something that made my entire body freeze.

“There’s something else you don’t know.”

“What?”

“Your baby wasn’t the only thing Brenda planned to take from you.”

I opened my eyes.

“What do you mean?”

Lucas whispered:

“She wanted your house too.”

And suddenly, the pieces began falling into place.

The money.

The forged documents.

The hospital records.

The secret transfer.

It hadn’t been about one baby.

It had been a plan.

A plan that had started long before I ever entered that delivery room.

And now I finally knew where to find my daughter.
