Part 2: I opened the family group chat with the social worker beside me, and the first video made my stomach turn. My father had filmed my daughter crawling across the living-room floor while the boy sat on her back. The BELT was visible in his hand, and every time she tried to stop, his voice ordered her to keep moving.
There were eleven clips.
Several relatives had reacted with laughing emojis. One had written, “Grandpa runs a strict house.” Nobody had called me. Nobody had stopped him.
I didn’t reply to a single message. The social worker told me not to alter anything, and an officer photographed the thread before the clips could disappear.
While we were still documenting it, messages began vanishing one after another.
Someone in the family had realized what those videos proved.
But they were too late.
The officer had already preserved them.
Then my father’s final message came through:
“You bring her home tonight, or everything you own stays in my house.”
The officer read it over my shoulder.
He looked at me and said, “Don’t answer him. We’re going back there with you—but you’re not going in alone.”
