Clove Tea: A Simple and Warming Herbal Drink

  • by

Cloves are a fragrant spice traditionally used in cooking and homemade herbal drinks. They contain naturally occurring plant compounds, including eugenol, and can add a warm, aromatic flavor to your daily routine.

While clove tea can be enjoyable as part of a balanced lifestyle, it should not be considered a treatment for vision loss, infections, diabetes, or other diseases. For persistent eye or health problems, proper medical evaluation is important.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 4–5 whole cloves
  • 1 small piece of cinnamon stick, optional
  • ½ teaspoon honey, optional
  • A small slice of fresh ginger, optional

Preparation

1. Boil the water
Bring one cup of water to a gentle boil.

2. Add the cloves
Place 4–5 whole cloves into the water. Add cinnamon or ginger if desired.

3. Simmer gently
Reduce the heat and let everything simmer for about 5–7 minutes. This allows the aromatic compounds to infuse into the water.

4. Strain the tea
Remove the cloves and other ingredients with a fine strainer.

5. Add honey if desired
Allow the tea to cool slightly before adding honey. This is completely optional.

6. Enjoy
Drink the tea warm, preferably with or after a meal if you find that spices irritate your stomach when consumed on an empty stomach.

Clove tea can be a pleasant caffeine-free alternative to coffee or ordinary tea. The cloves provide a distinctive flavor and antioxidant compounds, while the warm beverage itself can be a comforting addition to a healthy routine.

It is important not to place cloves or clove oil directly into the eyes or use them as an eye treatment. Concentrated clove oil can irritate the skin and mucous membranes, and consuming large amounts of cloves is not necessarily better. People taking blood-thinning medication or those with certain medical conditions should check with a healthcare professional before regularly consuming concentrated amounts of cloves.
