A Simple Morning Drink for Kidney Health: What You Should Know

People with reduced kidney function need to be especially careful with homemade herbal or vegetable drinks. Some preparations can contain significant amounts of potassium, sodium, or other substances that may not be appropriate for someone with advanced kidney disease. People receiving dialysis or taking medications for blood pressure, fluid balance, or other conditions should not replace their prescribed treatment with a homemade remedy.

The most useful way to understand kidney function is through appropriate medical testing. Healthcare professionals can evaluate blood tests such as creatinine and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), along with urine tests and other information when necessary. These measurements can show whether kidney function is stable, improving, or worsening.

Adequate hydration can be important for many people, but drinking excessive amounts of water or other fluids is not automatically beneficial for someone with kidney disease. Some people with advanced kidney problems are actually advised to limit their fluid intake.

If someone develops very little urine, significant swelling, persistent vomiting, severe weakness, confusion, difficulty breathing, or other concerning symptoms, medical attention should not be delayed while trying a home remedy.

A nutritious diet and healthy lifestyle can support kidney health, but no onion drink or other homemade recipe has been proven to make damaged kidneys return to normal by morning. Kidney problems deserve an accurate diagnosis and treatment based on their specific cause rather than promises of an overnight cure.
