Guava leaves and garlic are two natural ingredients that have been used traditionally in different cultures for generations. Today, a simple drink made with these ingredients is often promoted online as a way to support heart health, improve circulation, and maintain healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Garlic contains sulfur-containing compounds, including allicin, that have been studied for their potential cardiovascular effects. Research suggests that garlic may have modest effects on blood pressure and cholesterol in some people, particularly when used consistently as part of an overall healthy diet. However, garlic is not a replacement for prescribed blood pressure or cholesterol medication.
Guava leaves also contain polyphenols and other plant compounds with antioxidant activity. Most of the research on guava leaves has involved laboratory studies or specific extracts, so there is not enough evidence to say that guava-leaf tea can prevent heart disease or improve circulation in a medically meaningful way.
A simple homemade tea can be prepared by washing 4–5 fresh guava leaves and lightly crushing 1 small garlic clove. Add them to about 2 cups of water, bring to a gentle boil, and simmer for approximately 5–10 minutes. Strain the drink and allow it to cool before drinking. If desired, a small amount of lemon can be added for flavor.
This drink should be viewed as a food-based beverage rather than a treatment. It cannot remove blocked arteries, cure high blood pressure, reverse heart disease, or replace medication. There is also no reason to believe that drinking it means you will “never need to visit the hospital again.”
Garlic can cause stomach irritation, heartburn, or bad breath in some people. Larger amounts or concentrated garlic preparations may also increase bleeding risk, particularly in people taking blood-thinning medications. Anyone preparing for surgery should tell their healthcare professional about regular garlic or herbal-product use.
For better cardiovascular health, this type of drink should be combined with habits that have much stronger evidence: eating plenty of vegetables and fruits, choosing high-fiber foods, limiting excessive salt and highly processed foods, exercising regularly, avoiding tobacco, maintaining a healthy weight, and keeping blood pressure and cholesterol under control.
Guava-leaf and garlic tea can be an interesting traditional beverage, but its benefits should not be exaggerated. Natural ingredients may complement a healthy lifestyle, but they should never replace medical evaluation or proven treatment for heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or circulation problems.
