Celery is a crisp, refreshing vegetable that has been used in traditional food and herbal practices for generations. It is naturally low in calories and contains water, fiber, vitamin K, folate, potassium, and antioxidant compounds.
While celery is sometimes described online as a “natural cleanser” for the blood, kidneys, liver, or pancreas, the body already has its own systems for removing waste. Celery should therefore be viewed as a nutritious food rather than a treatment or detox cure.
One simple way to enjoy celery is as a fresh homemade drink.
Celery and Cucumber Drink
Ingredients:
- 2–3 celery stalks
- ½ cucumber
- 1 small green apple
- A handful of fresh parsley
- ½ lemon
- 1 cup of cold water
How to Prepare
- Wash everything thoroughly. Rinse the celery, cucumber, apple, parsley, and lemon under clean running water.
- Cut the ingredients. Chop the celery and cucumber into smaller pieces. Remove the apple core and cut the apple into chunks.
- Add everything to a blender. Place the celery, cucumber, apple, parsley, and water into the blender.
- Blend until smooth. Process for about 30–60 seconds.
- Add lemon. Squeeze in the lemon juice and blend briefly again.
- Drink fresh. Enjoy immediately rather than storing the drink for several days.
Celery can be a useful addition to a balanced eating pattern because it provides fluids and fiber while adding very few calories. Eating the whole vegetable also provides more fiber than drinking a strained juice.
If you take medication for blood pressure, kidney problems, or other conditions, avoid using concentrated celery preparations as a substitute for prescribed treatment. If you have persistent swelling, unusual fatigue, abdominal symptoms, or changes in urination, those symptoms deserve proper medical evaluation rather than relying on a homemade drink.
