A warm foot soak can be a relaxing way to care for tired feet after a long day. Guava leaves have been used traditionally in various herbal preparations, although there is not enough evidence to say that a guava-leaf soak can treat swollen ankles, blood-pressure problems, or circulation disorders.
Ingredients
- 10–15 fresh guava leaves
- 2 liters of water
- A basin large enough for your feet
How to Prepare It
1. Wash the leaves
Rinse the guava leaves thoroughly under clean running water.
2. Boil the water
Bring approximately 2 liters of water to a boil.
3. Add the leaves
Place the leaves into the hot water and simmer for about 10 minutes.
4. Let it cool
Remove from the heat and allow the infusion to cool until comfortably warm. Test the temperature with your hand before putting your feet in.
5. Soak your feet
Place your feet in the basin for approximately 15–20 minutes. Relax while the warm water soothes tired feet.
6. Dry thoroughly
Remove your feet and dry them carefully, especially between the toes.
A warm foot bath may provide temporary comfort and relaxation, but it does not remove excess fluid from the body or treat the underlying cause of leg swelling.
If swollen ankles or heavy legs are persistent, especially when accompanied by shortness of breath, chest pain, one-sided swelling, redness, severe pain, or sudden worsening, medical evaluation is important. Swelling can sometimes be related to circulation problems, medications, heart or kidney conditions, or other health issues.
