Cataracts and Blurry Vision: What You Should Know About the “Two-Ingredient” Remedy

  • by

Cataracts are a common eye condition in which the normally clear lens inside the eye becomes cloudy. They can gradually cause blurry or hazy vision, glare around lights, faded colors, and difficulty seeing clearly at night.

You may see online claims that mixing two kitchen ingredients can “wipe away” cataracts or restore sharp vision in just 11 minutes. There is no reliable evidence that a homemade mixture can dissolve or reverse a cataract that quickly.

A cataract develops inside the eye’s natural lens, so putting food, honey, oils, lemon juice, herbs, or other homemade mixtures into the eye can be dangerous.

What Actually Causes Cataracts?

The risk of cataracts increases with age because the proteins and structures inside the eye’s lens gradually change.

Other factors can contribute, including:

  • Diabetes
  • Smoking
  • Long-term exposure to ultraviolet light
  • Previous eye injuries
  • Certain medications, particularly prolonged corticosteroid use
  • Previous eye surgery
  • Family history of cataracts

Cataracts usually develop gradually rather than appearing and disappearing within minutes.

Common Symptoms

A developing cataract may cause:

  • Blurred or cloudy vision
  • Increased sensitivity to bright light
  • Glare or halos around lights
  • Difficulty seeing at night
  • Faded or yellowish colors
  • Frequent changes in glasses prescription
  • Difficulty reading or performing detailed tasks

The symptoms can initially be mild, but they may progressively interfere with everyday activities.

Can Food Improve Eye Health?

A nutritious diet can support overall eye health, even though it cannot instantly remove an existing cataract.

Vegetables, fruits, legumes, fish, nuts, seeds, and other nutrient-rich foods can contribute to a healthy eating pattern.

Nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin E, carotenoids, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids are involved in normal eye and general health.

However, supporting eye health is different from reversing an established cataract.
